DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD
She isn't really dead - unless something happens to her while this post is up. If that happens I will be in all the papers as some sort of sicko as if it was me that is/was a murdering old sow. All the sycophants will be out in force that day and I will be reaching for the sick bag. We will hear all sorts of nonsense about 'the Iron Lady' and her derring-do and fortitude. We will hear less about her slashing welfare, ruining employment rights, wrecking the railways, being a war criminal (look up some stuff about the sinking of the Belgrano) and being a great friend of such lovely people as General Pinochet. They probably won't mention that she was opposed to sanctions against the apartheid regime in South Africa either.

The reason I want to post all of this is for my American readers to let them know that while the concept of a female leader is a good thing, the reality may not be any better than what is currently around.

A lot of women I know in the UK have the attitude that it was great having a woman PM finally but why the f*ck did it have to be her?

Also, hundreds of people I know talk about going out for a celebratory beer when she finally does die. MILLIONS of people I don't know talk about the same thing. It is quite a common conversation in the UK.

That might seem callous but it is not anywhere near as callous as she was.

Power attracts scumbags of either sex. But I think that a certain type of idiot could only bring themself to vote for a woman if she embodied very 'unfeminine' traits such as toughness, ruthlessness and even cruelty. They see it as 'compensating' for her sex.

I'd love to see a woman in power...providing it were, say, Angela Davis or Arundhati Roy.

Sir, I will not sit idly by whilest you bad-mouth St. Ronald Reagan's favorite love-monkey!

By the way, I heard that the nickname "Iron Lady" had nothing to do with her steely demeanor, and everything to do with her ability, at parties, to crush walnuts with her thighs.

The bad thing is that we thought we had lived through all the crap in the late 70's and into the 80's, and that the world had come out on the other side a better place. Thatcher and Reagan gave us nuclear arms proliferation and 'star wars' and fingers nudging ever so close to that big red button. Thatcher, because she was starstruck by Reagan, and Reagan because he saw the presidency as his biggest acting role to date. And you know how it is in the movies...you can destroy whole continents and everyone gets up and laughs when the director yells, 'cut'.

For anyone who was too young to remember those times, they were extremely scary ones. It wasn't for nothing that movies such as "The Day After" and the much superior, "Threads" were made. We seriously thought we were on the brink of nuclear war with whichever target one of these loonies decided to pick.

And the sad part is that 20 years or so down the line, here we are in the same situation. Only this time the tyrants at the helm are even more unpredictable, and the world's an even scarier place.

Almost makes me feel nostalgic for the striking miners and poll tax, and tomato sauce as a vegetable.

Margaret Thatcher, Benazir Bhutto, Eva Peron, Indira Gandhi, Golda Meir, Sirimavo Bandaranaike, Sheikh Hasina, Jayalalithaa, Winnie Mandela, et aliae hardly seem like an improvement over the male of the species (Homo Politico). Somehow, a goodly number of Americans lose their critical faculties when the honorific of "Madam President" is mentioned. They could do worse than get an inkling of the kind of "change" brought about by above personalities in their respective lands...

Sadly I have to say that yes Rex really nailed it with the walnut crushing issue..and yes, she and Reagon were a nauseating combination and truly dangerous, can't believe that we are still suffering the remains of that administration, but we are ( Dick and Rummy etc)...and gee I would love to think that there could be American Leaders that were more Valid and Honorable than the Thatched woman....( and shit, I don't mean Hillary)...but when she does bite the big one I will toast the sunffing of yet another poorly lit torch of Imperialism...Thank you Thumper...

( nothing callous about discussing the end of a destructive greedy viper of a being...an embarrassment to women Everywhere)

THANKS. Thanks for this posting. I'm glad to see there's some smart people in UK as well in the US. I'm from Argentina, and the name of that lady is BAD luck here. Somehow, if you mention her name walking in the streets, you may see or hear somebody stumbling or slipping with a banana peel or something. I swear it. :)

Anyway the Malvinas/Falkland Islands stupid war was not only the lady's fault. Her partenaire, the drunk militar de facto president Leopoldo Galtieri is responsible too. We, the people of UK and Argentina, we should be closer eachother and never forget this. An small piece of land in the sea does not justify the death of a single person.

    Best Regards.

The inaugural 'Arse of the month' award goes to our very own Scottish First Minister Jack (Joke) McConnell. He seems to spend a lot of his time sucking up to english politicians and yet it appears they don't even know his name. Follow the link to see..
