SO....

The 'Celebrations' for the 300 year Act of Union are about to begin. I can at least guarantee there will be no celebration of such a thing on this site. I made the picture above and it obviously still applies.

It seems though, that Prince Harry will be serving in Iraq.

We are assured that he will perform
"a normal troop commander's role" which consists of "leading a troop of 12 men in four Scimitar armoured reconnaissance vehicles, each with a crew of three" from the regiment's "A squadron".

Furthermore, the Sun newspaper (sic) says that "
Harry made it clear to defence chiefs he would not accept a compromise of doing a safe desk job in the war-torn country."

This all may or may not be true but I just can't imagine that he will not receive some extra degree of protection.

Nevertheless, this is all wonderfully beside the point. The people who won't be getting any extra protection are the people of Iraq who have been left in the most dreadful circumstances due to the effects of an illegal and murderous war.

What a lousy little creep that prince is.

...but it does reveal something about the fundamentally imperialist nature of the UK's presence in Iraq.

Is it wrong to so secretly wish he has a disfiguring run-in with a landmine and instead of soldiering picks up his mother's work on the issue...?

    imperialist nature

    damn right.

in some ways it is an honest admission of that fact

What a little fool the prince is. Prince of fools fighting for black gold. I am sure his mother would be ashamed.

Thank you for stopping by my blog. It looks as if we are on the same page re this war though I am kinder to the royal family.

My father was born in Scotland and I was fortunate enough to visit there for six weeks a couple of years ago, so you do have my undying envy.

I think Harry's point is that the war is Whacked. Now the government has to deal with the fact that their policies may just kill their "Lord" as well as any Commoner or foreigner.

Harry is a damn fine man in my book. I wish him and his troop as much health and safety as any can expect.

And not an iota more nor less.

I hope Harry comes to no harm...he cannot help he is a Prince poor thing. He had a better mother to hug and kiss him goodnight than Charles did. No more people should be killed or maimed in this war...if it could only just stop. Glad you'll be home for a while Mr. Tubthumper.

Just to say thank you very much for linking to the new version of Today in Iraq

It's beingh run in parallel with the old blogger site which unfortunately has unfixable problems. I haven't got a round to fixing up the blogroll or the courtesy link exchange yet but leave a comment on My place if you'd like to be on the link exchange thingy :-)

At the risk of being a blogwhore my place has a fairly large Iraki continget who write describing their lives in Irak or help me translate summaries of the news from Arabic or ...whatever they feel like really they set the tone. This is Mohammed Ibn Laith 16 years old from a mixed neighbourhood and with a Sunni parent and a Shia parent describing living through a big bombing. When I heard the bomb explode last Saturday the first thing I did was telephone my father. But there was no reply.

You might be interested in reading what Bush Blair and their paymasters have done from the POV of somebody who actually lives it day in day out. He wrote it in Arabic and then got some of his mates to help him with his English. You might find it very upsetting.

Thanks again for linking to Today In Iraq.

The inaugural 'Arse of the month' award goes to our very own Scottish First Minister Jack (Joke) McConnell. He seems to spend a lot of his time sucking up to english politicians and yet it appears they don't even know his name. Follow the link to see..
