    Relations between Jews and Muslims have historically been far better than those between Christians and Jews. Which isn't to say they always went along like peaches and cream, but let's not go along with yet another reflexive projection of a European fetish onto another set of cultures. Just to give an example that comes to mind, less than a century ago a Jew was among the three men powerful men of the Ottoman Empire (which had many features of inter-ethnic relationships that start looking desirable when compared with the murderous legacy of the nation-state). Such a possibility was unthinkable anywhere in Central and Eastern Europe. Although the history of relations between Muslims (mostly Arab) and Jews wouldn't satisfy modern multicultural sensibilities, nevertheless, the reality of Jewish life in predmoninantly Islamic lands is quite removed from "the lachrymose version of Jewish history" in Europe. Avi Shlaim and others have spoken or written on this little understood issue:

    i actually thought hard about putting the second one up for some of the reasons givern here. i was then going to take it off but i haven't been near a pc so i didn't till now.

    for the record it is not representative of my views - i just thought it was reasonably amusing.

    the animation is from a show called 'american dad' which some episodes i have seen have been hilarious and some not so good.

    Sorry to hear you had 2nd thoughts about putting up that video. I want you to know I (a jack mormon turned agnostic), my Jewish husband, my Irish-Catholic bro-in-law & my Lebanese Muslim ex-bro-in-law ALL found it entertaining. True, we are low-brow, but undiscriminatingly so. D.K.
