| PROUD TO BE A WHAT? |
As a Scottish person one thing you have to get used to is people insulting, patronising or otherwise being nonplussed (or flummoxed - flummoxed IS a good word) by your accent. Then, when you mention THEIR accent, the offending English or American person (for it is usually they - see recent routines by Robin Williams to name but one) say "I don't HAVE an accent."
YES YOU DO, IT IS JUST DIFFERENT FROM MINE -I AM NOT SPEAKING INCORRECTLY JUST BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO TALK LIKE SOME DICK OFF THE OC OR BBC NEWS.
In that light... British comedian Rory Bremner mentioned this a while ago but it is worth mentioning again.
I often hear people on TV saying they are proud to be A-merkin. Bush says it often, as do many others.
So, from dictionary.com...
Merkin -
- false hair for the female pudenda.
- A pubic wig for women.
- According to "The Oxford Companion to the Body," the custom of wearing merkins dates from c.1450, was associated with prostitutes, and was to disguise either pubic hair shaved off to exterminate body lice or evidence of venereal disease.

A merkin (first use, according to the OED, 1617) is a pubic wig, worn by prostitutes after shaving their genitalia to eliminate lice or to disguise the marks of syphilis. There are many different ways of wearing a merkin, although most involve placing the merkin on the vulva or the scrotum. | HENRY KISSINGER SEZ... |
 I found this from Henry...

Hmmm. He continues...

What I find most staggering about this is the doublethink.
Doublethink was defined by Orwell as...
"The ability to hold two contradictory thoughts in one's head and believe in both of them simultaneously." Just read what he said again and see if you get what I mean.
And... I always tell this story but tough, you're getting it again.
When I was in school my history teacher went on a rant about Kissinger explaining that he was a bit (a lot) of a bastard. I put my hand up and said
"Sir, I heard he has a really high IQ. 180 or something." the reply came back...
"Yes, there are lots of intelligent criminals."

| PINOCCHIO |
 I know that we all know that he is a lying bastard but year or so ago I posted something about his first election leaflet when he was running to be an MP for the first time.
You can look at it here.
At a time when the UK is at war in a few places and is currently trying to spend billions of pounds on revamping its nuclear weaponry it is interesting to look at some of the things on the leaflet.
In one section entitled "DEFENCE MADNESS" there are two little comments..
"The incompetent Tories got us into the Falklands War -now the Falklands Fortress Policy is costing us billions."
and
"The Tories would rather spend £10 billion on trident missiles, than try to stop the growing nuclear arms race." In response to these charges against the Tories, in a section entitled "Labour's Sensible Answers" there is a prescription for "A MORE SANE DEFENCE POLICY" (when I wrote about this before I pointed out that they only seem to want a more sane defence policy, rather than actually having a sane defence policy) which says...
"Labour believes in Defence and in membership of N.A.T.O. but we don't need dangerous and costly Trident and Cruise missiles, which just escalate the arms race."
Hmmm
Finally, in the personal message section we have this...
"The Tories say there is no new money to create jobs. But they spend billions of pounds each year on dangerous nuclear weapons. They spend billions on keeping people on the dole [for American readers 'the dole' is slang for being on welfare]. They encourage the rich to invest billions abroad each year. This isn't sense - it's insanity." Oh and I just wanted to post this cartoon, because I like it.
