FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE |
Happy New Year to everyone and for anyone still recovering I think a list of some short films for free download might be a good way to begin it gently....
Firstly, get used to using www.archive.org . Archive.org, for those who don't know it, is a massive Internet library. Thousands of old government and corporate propaganda films are stored in the Prelinger archives. 'Duck and Cover', 'Reefer Madness' and all the old favourites are there. Many of the clips you will probably have seen used in 'The Corporation', the Michael Moore films and others are to be found in their full context here. It's a little bit fiddly to use at first but you get used to it. The download options are on the left.
If you want a laugh to begin with then try here. If you want to be scared try here . An old US government morality film called 'Are you popular?' is worth a look. Also, this is an interesting little piece about George Bush's linguistic capabilities through the years (it isn't just silly mistakes). You can also download an incredible film called Salt of the Earth for free. Chomsky has talked about this one. Most of them are in Quicktime 4 format so you might have to download that first.
Another excellent site for free documentaries is the dossier . I would recommend 'Between (and Beyond - there are two parts) Iraq and a Hard Place', 'The World According to Bush', 'The Panama Deception', 'The Money Masters', 'Why we Fight' and a whole host of others on there.
I also really liked 'Operation Hollywood' which is a look at the links between hollywood and the US military.
I will post more of these in the future, but for now the last two I want to mention will make you fall off your chair laughing. Try and watch them in order. The first one is 6 minutes and the second one is ten minutes.
If you watch any of them, let me know what you think in the comments.
There is also a new 'Warmonger of the Week' and a new opinion poll on the right hand side. The results of the old one (What is the most important issue in the world today?) were... War In Iraq - 2 votes, War on terror - 0 votes, Israel/Palestine - 1 vote, Climate Change/energy policy - 10 votes, Iranian Nuclear policy - 0 votes, Aids crisis - 2 votes, Bird Flu and genetics both got 0 and the war on christmas got 3 people who I assume think they are funny.

Hey michael, I know this is neither big or clever, but it sort of fits with the scary Bush video (and I just get a huge kick out of being on-topic).
Good stuff as ever, I did manage to dl Salt of the Earth round my "oooh, we've got broadband, get us" mates, but haven't watched it yet. Will make it a priority.

Thanks for the links, I have found archive.org to be a great site.
The Lord of the Rings spoofs were very funny and dead on. Love the creation of Bush and his alliance to his corporate masters. lol

Thumping The Tub Video |
I have made a few short movies. Here are links to free downloads for them all in the order that I made them (as far as I can remember). Please feel free to use, distribute, disagree with, shout at etc etc
Praise The Lord and Pass The Ammunition
This was a REAL song from World War 2. I was so stunned by it I had to make a movie
How Far Is It From Here to Nuremberg
This is my attempt at a video for the excellent, if worrying, David Rovics (see links) song
What You Like
I believe the word for this is "splenetic". Only 20 seconds long.
Imperial Measures
What is going on in Iraq? Some things you knew, some you didn't. A couple of bits of info are out of date now.
Wish You Were Here
Wish You Were Here is a 6 minute film about the unprecendted rate of animal extinction we are currently experiencing
Gorillas and us
I don't like creationism, neither did Douglas Adams

Arse of the month |
The inaugural 'Arse of the month' award goes to our very own Scottish First Minister Jack (Joke) McConnell. He seems to spend a lot of his time sucking up to english politicians and yet it appears they don't even know his name. Follow the link to see..
